Maine’s Best Corn Mazes

After popping it and slathering it with butter, aimlessly wandering through it is our third favorite thing to do with corn. Check out a few of our favorite fall mazes.

Maine Corn Mazes

Ricker Hill Orchards

295 Buckfield Rd., Turner. 207-225-3455.

Theme: None — just an old-school labyrinth
Cost: $9
Difficulty: Team Ricker Hill designs the maze for kids to get through inside a half-hour.
Pro tip: Admission includes a whole agro-tainment complex — mini-golf, petting zoo, and more. Adults: drop into the cozy tasting room and have a couple pints of craft hard cider afterwards. Or before.

Treworgy Family Orchards

3876 Union St., Levant. 207-884-8354.

Theme: “The Good Knight and the Dragon”: Hit check-in stations as you navigate the beast’s gullet, wings, and tail.
Cost: $8, ages 13 and up; $7, ages 4–12
Difficulty: Moderate — paths are long, but none too winding.
Pro tip: Bring your ticket to the Orchard Café for free ice cream.

Thunder Road Farm

185 Newport Rd., Corinna. 207-278-3708

Theme: The maze is shaped like a haunted house, complete with a jack-o-lantern out front and spooky witch flying overhead.
Cost: $9, ages 4–64; $7.50, ages 65 and up
Difficulty: Follow a set of quiz prompts on ten hidden signposts — get the answer right, and it’ll tell you which way to go. If you’re good, you’ll be out in 45 minutes.
Pro tip: Come on Halloween to do some trick-or-treating inside the maze, where costumed characters lurk, distributing candy.

Pumpkin Valley Farm

100 Union Falls Rd., Dayton. 207-929-4088.

Theme: “K-9 Heroes”: At the center of the maze, you’re wandering through a noble German shepherd.
Cost: $9, ages 3–64; $7.50,ages 65 and up
Difficulty: Expect to spend an hour exploring this police pooch.
Pro tip: Do not skip the kettle corn (or, if you’re a little tyke, a ride on the tractor-pulled “cow train”).

Goughan’s Farm

875 Fort Fairfield Rd., Caribou. 207-498-6565.

Theme: “Feed The County”: The lions’ share of the maze is actually a detailed rendering of the head of one Dixie Shaw, director of the local non-profit of the same name.
Cost: $7.50, ages 4 and up; $1, under 4
Difficulty:Set aside 45 minutes to an hour, longer if you want to play any of the five carnival-style games hidden in the maze.
Pro tip: Complete at least one of those games and it earns you an ice cream when you find the exit.

Sandy River Farms

560 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington. 207-778-3835.
Theme: Honoring the Farmer Veteran Coalition of Maine — the group’s sprout logo at its center.
Cost: $8, ages 10 and up; $4,ages 3–9
Difficulty: 10 acres and super elaborate — you might want to bring a snack and a flashlight.
Pro tip: Ghosts and ghouls roam among the stalks October 28–30.
