[dropcap letter=”T”]here’s something oh-so-inviting about a mountain pond, and few in Acadia are more picturesque than the little spring-fed kettle pond known as The Bowl. Seen here from the Beehive looking northwest, it’s nestled in a glacial cirque on the south ridge of Champlain Mountain — a welcome dip for hikers on summer days and total eye candy in the fall. A few miles west, similarly stunning Sargent Mountain Pond has the distinction of possibly being Maine’s oldest — geologists suspect it was the first lake to form here at the end of the last ice age.
