Diane Cowan, a.k.a. the Lobster Doc of Commercial Fisheries News, was the first scientist to document that newly settled baby lobsters live under rocks just above the low-tide mark. As the founder of The Lobster Conservancy, she has engaged volunteers in monitoring lobster nurseries, yielding valuable information about the health of the fishery. Cowan earned her doctorate from the Woods Hole–based Boston University Marine Program in 1992.
