Where in Maine?
November 2015

Each month, Down East editors select our favorite response to “Where in Maine?” Here is our favorite letter from November.

How appropriate that I should open my Down East on a flight from Houston to Boston, where I will land and head up to Ogunquit. We’ve been vacationing there for 15 summers and just two days ago became Mainers, purchasing the house that we’ve been renting. It sits at the entrance to Perkins Cove, 300 yards from Marginal Way, the “famed walkway” in your clue. The photo shows the bridge over the river to the aptly named Footbridge Beach. People at home in Texas look at us like we are crazed when we talk about Ogunquit. We have no family up north, nor any ties. It’s hard to describe the feeling that the small village evokes. No stop lights. Trolleys. Perfect beaches. Real lobstermen. Pure freedom.
