March 17 @ 2:00 pm

Free

John Hopeck of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection will give a talk, titled “Groundwater Science for Maine: Sources and Sinks,” on Tuesday, March 17, at the Belfast Free Library, 106 High St. The program, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Belfast Garden Club. It will begin at 2:00 p.m., following a 1:00 members’ meeting.

Using experiments, he will demonstrate the migration of contamination in groundwater and its effects on wells, and relate it to the trends taking place in Maine. The program is interactive, with opportunities to ask questions.

Dr. John Hopeck has worked as a geologist for more than 25 years and has been researching Maine geology for more than 30 years. He has worked on issues pertaining to Maine land and water, including industrial development, stormwater regulation, groundwater extraction, and mining.
