I’m used to the Saco River as it enters the ocean at Biddeford. But I learned that it actually starts at Saco Lake in Crawford Notch in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. 136 miles long, it runs through six hydropower stations in Maine and supplies drinking water to roughly 250,000 people in 35 towns before it reaches Saco Bay. That’s Mount Tom in the background.
