While on my Down East tour, I did several Milky Way shoots. This is the first installment of those shoots. It was taken at 1:30 a.m. Monday morning at Sand Beach in Acadia National Park. Not a sole was there, just me. I wandered around in the darkness looking for a composition and I stumbled upon the life guard stand and surf board you see in the foreground. I composed the image to include the lifeguard station, MW, and Mars (seen on the left hand side of the image).
I think one of the main things I like about MW shooting is the the solitude and looking up into the cosmic abyss and thinking how long the light I am seeing took to get to my eyes and just how small and insignificant we really are. Combine that with the soft crashing of the waves onto the sandy shoreline and you get a scene that is so peaceful and mesmerizing. It didn’t matter that I had been up for 24 hours.
