I was in Portland for some appointments this morning and I decided to make my way to Deering Oakes Park to shoot the rare Great Black Hawk that has been frequenting the park. Well, the GBH was no where to be found today, but I did find a first for me, a Barred Owl (Stiix varia). He was tucked away in a small opening the branches of a black spruce tree. What a gorgeous bird! I guess he wasn’t too sure about me because he kept one eye open while he slept.
