The Camden Philosophical Society Reading Group meets monthly at the library. At the next meeting, on Tuesday, April 9, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, the group will discuss more readings concerning art, the art world, and philosophy of art. Our focus this month will be on dance, and we will be reading a short piece by Deleuze entitled Desert Islands and another by Audrey Lane Ellis on Deleuze’s work on this topic, entitled Dancing and Deleuze.

Maine Humanities Council Presents: Winter Weekend 2013, Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations"

On the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens’s birth, the Maine Humanities Council is delighted to announce our first Dickens novel for Winter Weekend. Great Expectations, one of Dickens’s mature novels, is replete with his trademark colorful characters and biting criticism of society. This bildungsroman is a powerful and dramatic story from Dickens at his prime.

The Friends of Curtis Memorial Library will host a book talk by award-winning Brunswick author, Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. The event will take place in the Library’s Morrell Reading Room, 23 Pleasant Street, Brunswick, ME. The author will discuss, read from, and sign her new novel, The Whaler’s Bride, a metaphysical romance set in Maine, Cape Cod, and New Bedford and spanning over two hundred years. Books will be available for signing and light refreshments served.

Sandra Oliver brings the traditions and recipes of generations of Maine home cooks to life in her new book, Maine Home Cooking: 175 Recipes from Down East Kitchens. She will be talking about Downeast cooking and about her book at the Camden Public Library on Tuesday evening, December 18, at 7:00 pm. The Owl & Turtle Book Store will have books on hand for purchase and signing, just in time for Christmas!
