Ten groups of Salt Institute for Documentary Studies students visited the Oxford County Fair in Oxford, Maine and each found their own story to tell. Part 1 looks at the demolition derby as part of the fair's tradition.
"The demolition derby is fair tradition, and there is something about total destruction that enthralls and entices viewers across the country. The pastime has traditionally been dominated by men, but at the Oxford County Fair in Oxford, Maine, women now have their own derby. Kathy Kahkonen competed in her first ever demolition derby at the Oxford County Fair this year." — Producers Shannon Geis and Chloe Crettien.
Salt Stories features the work of students at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies [1], a 15-week educational program training aspiring writers, radio producers, and photographers in the art of nonfiction storytelling.
