Down East Enterprise is a multimedia company based in Rockport, Maine, devoted to celebrating "Maine at its Best." Founded in 1954, the company’s flagship publication, Down East: The Magazine of Maine, has become synonymous with the state itself and today ranks as Maine's premier magazine with more than 400,000 readers around the world. Today, Down East delivers not only the best available coverage of lifestyle, destination, and "good curiosities" in Maine, but it also zooms in on hot topics for Mainers and those who love the Pine Tree State.

Since 1977, Down East has also published books by the state's best authors and artists, with a list of more than 800 books published to date.

Among this year’s titles are The Maine Lobster Book by Virginia M. Wright; Interventions by Richard Russo, and Moxie: Maine in a Bottle by Jim Baumer. Always strong in the area of children’s books, Down East’s popular picture books include The Summer Visitors written and illustrated by Karel Hayes, and Lost Trail, the graphic novel rendition of Donn Fendler's story.

Two more magazines are published from the company's Rockport, Maine, offices. Shooting Sportsman caters to the wing-shooting enthusiast and fine-gun collector, while Fly Rod & Reel addresses the enthusiasms of those with a passion for fly-fishing. In 2007, the company introduced, Shooting Sportsman Books as a new imprint.
