The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center in Livermore will open for a 19th century interactive Christmas celebration on December 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Journey back to the days of old and enjoy 19th century parlor games, mansion tours, stringing popcorn and craft activities in the cozy Norlands kitchen, caroling around the antique piano in the ladies’ parlor in the mansion, readings in the one-room schoolhouse, jingle bell wagon rides, fresh molasses cookies and mulled cider made on the woodstove, and the simply decorated Washburn mansion. Kerck Kelsey, Washburn descendant and author, will give a talk about Washburn family Christmases during the 19th century.
A Cookie Walk is offered starting at 11:00 a.m. Choose a dozen delicious homemade cookies for only $5.00. Proceeds from the Cookie Walk will benefit the building fund.
The event has been organized by a group of dedicated Norlands volunteers who have been studying Livermore history and the lifestyles of people in the late 1800s. For more information about Christmas at Norlands, call 207-897-4366 or visit our website at www.Norlands.org.
