Is This Fire Truck Heaven?
A retired Topsham fire truck starts serving tequila.
Topsham’s recently retired ladder truck spent the summer traveling the country on the Sauza Tequila Regional Rescue Tour. The once-red fire engine was painted icy blue and staffed by three firemen — make that “smoking hot” firemen, according to Sauza’s publicity materials — who dispensed margarita-making tips. The truck’s reincarnation was facilitated by Chris Champagne, the Brunswick-based sales representative for Greenwood Emergency Vehicles, who accepted the vehicle as a trade-in on a new combination ladder and pumper truck. It was, Champagne says, one of the most unusual rebirths he’s seen. Typically when fire trucks reach that age — twenty-four years — they’re sold for scrap. — Virginia M. Wright
