After a two-year closure, the Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education (207-780-4850, usm.maine.edu/maps/) at the University of Southern Maine has reopened in a spiffy new space on the corner of Forest Avenue and Bedford Street. The new library houses more than three hundred thousand maps, plus other materials dating back to 1475. If you can’t make it to the library, check out its large online map database. Type in the keyword “Maine” and 178 maps pop up!
