As many head to Freeport this July 4th to celebrate Independence Day and L.L.Beans 100th birthday we wanted to share some recent Down East magazine material to assist you over the holiday.

For those traveling along Route 1, be sure to check out our April Issue when senior writer Virginia M. Wright drove all 527 miles and reported on the people and places along road that connects the coast. Discover the route's history, how it changes across Maine's regions, and exactly how many McDonald's you'll pass.

In May we honored L.L.Bean with a supplement celebrating 100 years of this Maine institution. Learn how they create the signature bean boot, the majesty of the riverbed aquarium, and what's in store for Bean's second century.

While you're there also be sure to use our Freeport Insider guide to get off the traffic-clogged streets and explore all the secret attractions this coastal town has to offer. Have a Happy Fourth of July in Maine!
