Blog Posts Lead to "Unhiring" of Political Operative
Thanks to this blog, and to the anonymous author of AsMaineGoesLolz, who first suspected that Republican operative Michael Pajak and AsMaineGoes forum poster The Distributist were the same person, the LePage administration has changed its mind about hiring Pajak to a position within the Department of Conservation. He had been offered the job of administrative assistant earlier this week.
As I discussed in October, Pajak had apparently written a series of highly offensive posts, mostly targeting gay people and muslims, over a period of several years.
From MPBN:
"This morning the commissioner learned about some unfortunate blog posts and came to the conclusion that Mr. Pajak wouldn't be a good fit for the department," Demeritt said. [...]
"What Pajak posted is just beyond the pale," said Mike Tipping, communications director of the Maine Peoples Alliance who also blogs about politics from the left-side of the aisle. He first outed "the Distributist" as Michael Pajak in a column last fall. Tipping says when he confronted Pajak about whether he was the person who had described the 2006 incident in which a pig's head was tossed into a mosque in Lewiston during prayer services as "a horrible waste of the other white meat" and whether he had posted that homosexual behavior is to genetics what Islam is to religion" and that "DHHS is laden with lesbians who have as their mission the dismantling of the traditional family" Pajak refused to deny it.
After writing about Pajak's postings I was sent additional evidence making it even more clear that Pajak was the Distributist. It also appears that the image he posted that gave him away came from a State House computer, back when he was working for the Republican Senate caucus.
This latest development should obviously settle any remaining questions about his online identity.
Pajak currently serves as executive director for Friends of Maine Mountains, a group that opposes wind energy development projects.
