Inside Maine
Good Medicine, Good News
Medical advances, innovative programs and treatments, and state-of-the art facilities are improving health care in Maine. Here are some of the most promising developments.
William Wegman's Ode to Maine
The Bowdoin exhibition “William Wegman: Hello Nature” focuses on the work the famed artist produced in Rangeley over the past three decades. Don’t be afraid to laugh along.
One Scary Good Cause
The Camp Sunshine Pumpkin Festival lights up Freeport with thousands of glowing jack-o-lanterns for one of the season’s most heart-warming events.
Sounds of Nature
Birches Lo (maxgarciaconover.bandcamp.com, $6 CD; $5 MP3) is a new live album and the second EP overall from Portland-based guitarist Max García Conover. The sound is raw, stripped bare of any computer or studio magic. It’s jarring at first, but the organic sound of one man and his masterful guitar playing makes the songs all the more powerful.
Pizza on the Move
Next time you hit the farmers’ markets in Union, Camden, or Rockland, be sure to pick up a pizza along with your salad greens and tomatoes. Uproot Pie Co. (theuprootpieco@gmail.com, 207-370-1568), of Union, travels to these local farmers’ markets with a complete wood-fired pizza oven in tow. For $7 to $9 you can enjoy a fresh nine-inch pie made with ingredients from many of the farmers selling goods and produce at the market.
