This event is designed to bring the surrounding community together in celebration of our world and its natural resources and features a three-mile fun walk along the scenic backroads and rolling hills of rural New Gloucester.

“Jungle Jack” Hanna, star of his own action-packed TV series, brings his family-friendly animal show, Into the Wild, to Maine. Besides all the critters, Hanna will entertain with his humorous stories and footage from his adventures around the world.

 A wide array of annuals and perennials, gardening supplies, and more will be available for your spring gardening needs. The popular white elephant sale will be included again this year as well as gardening supplies such as the club’s favorite Palmflex Garden Gloves (for the low price of six dollars each). The annual plant sale is a benefit for Belfast Garden Club activities in the community and our scholarship fund for higher education. Plants will be donated by area nurseries and greenhouses, as well as gardeners within the community.

 The varied career and educational background of Jean English includes a gardening column for Village Soup publications, raising nursery stock for Fedco Trees, and also organic Christmas trees. Jean edits the Maine Organic Farmer and Gardener for MOFGA and has a PhD in Plant and Soil Sciences. English will present a slide show about topics that are getting a lot of attention in farm and garden writing, including climate change, helping pollinators, and the importance of using organic methods.

Jump into spring and  visit WatersEdge, the W.P. Stewart Estate on Somes Sound in Northeast Harbor for the twelfth annual Spring Garden Tour. This colorful and fun event allows guests to meander along the blooming paths of this private estate and witness a plethora of spring blooms. All proceeds go to the Abbe Museum.

Small and not so small treasures of gardening are discovered during this one day self-guided tour. The tour lets you experience private gardens you might never see otherwise. The tour began as a way to celebrate and share our neighbors’ gardening skills, and to give something back to the community. We draw people from all parts of Maine and out of state – some even planning their vacation around the tour. People always say they are surprised by what homeowners have done with their gardens, clever use of small or challenging spaces, and the bursts of color.

Didier Bonner-Ganter is the proprietor of Woodland Management Progressive Forest and Tree Care. His talk "Observations of Trees" utilizes live tree samples and a photo slideshow to explore urban tree topics and special attention to some of Belfast’s forest canopy.
