Veterans for Peace March

On November 3, 2010, The Veterans for Peace marched out of Farmington, Maine and did not stop until they reached Portland, eight days later. The Veterans for Peace teamed up with some Buddhist members of the Nipponzan Myohoji order to complete the 120+ mile walk across the state. Smiles, waves and friendly honks were a frequent occurrence as the small parade marched through towns and down highways. The group did one last march across downtown Portland in the Veterans Day Parade, just one day after literally walking into the city, but not without a considerable amount of reluctance from members of the American Legion, key organizers for the parade event. However, support for Veterans for Peace in the form of claps and waves came just as easily during the parade as it did during their cross-state march.
