The Jesup Memorial Library and the newly formed Acadia Astronomical Society team up for this program to teach people about telescopes. The society is seeking new members, but the program is open to all. Have a new telescope? Bring it and learn how to use it; or come and learn about the Jesup’s new telescope and how to check it out and take it home, just like a book.This is a free service and part of the Jesup’s ongoing community outreach.

Life Cycles is a series of six short comedies about human life. These short plays will be presented at Eastport Arts Center, 36 Washington St., Eastport, ME. There will be plenty of room in the 106 seat theatre on the second floor of the center. The second show will conclude in plenty of time for people to get downtown for the Maple Drop at 11:00pm, EST, and then the Sardine Drop at midnight.

Join the thousands of people across the country who participate in the largest and longest-running citizen science project, counting birds for the Audubon Christmas Bird Count. As part of the national effort that has taken place for over 100 years, SERC Institute will assist in the Schoodic Bird Count, held this year on New Year’s Day. The Schoodic Christmas Bird Count will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. Count compiler Bill Townsend and Schoodic Bird Ecology Lab Director Seth Benz invite you to get in on the action.

More than 50 local crafters will show and sell their finest work at the 38th annual Island Arts Association (IAA) Holiday Fair on Friday, Nov. 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fair will be held in the conference center of the Atlantic Oceanside Resort, 119 Eden St. (Route 3), Bar Harbor. Admission is free. Crafts include pottery, jewelry, knits, photography, quilting, bags, hand-blown glass, woodworking and more. Food sales will support the heating costs of the YWCA of MDI. For information, contact the YWCA at 288-5008.
