When Dean’s Sweets got together with Fox Family Potato Chips, it was a match made-in-Maine heaven. Dean Bingham, founder of Dean’s Sweets, a purveyor of extraordinary hand-dipped chocolate truffles and caramels in Portland’s East End, recently expanded his repertoire to include a series of chocolate bars with a twist. The standout of the bunch is the Maine Potato Chip Chocolate Bar ($3.65; 82 Middle St., Portland; 207-899-3664; deanssweets.com [2]). It incorporates Fox Family Potato Chips — a brand of chips that uses potatoes from its farm in the Aroostook County town of Mapleton — with the sumptuous milk chocolate Dean’s is known for. Dean’s proclaims the bar as “possibly the best combination ever.” No arguments here.
