Nothing beats an island retreat off the coast of Maine: rest, relaxation, and . . . drumming? If you sign up for Rippleffect’s (207-791-7870, www.rippleffect.net [2]) Tidal Rhythm class the last weekend in September, you’ll be getting some R&R along with instruction in the djembe of West Africa from master drummer Abdoul Doumbia. This two-day retreat on Casco Bay’s twenty-six-acre Cow Island is one of Rippleffect’s new adult offerings, launched in 2008. The organization is primarily a youth development program, designed to provide education and adventure in a “living classroom.” It offers a series of camps for different ages, as well as customizable group and corporate programming for adults. Bring along your dog the first weekend of October and learn about holistic canine health, care, and training. Or hitch a ride on their schooner for a Lobster Bake on Tuesdays. There’s something for everyone on Cow Island.
