The Yankee Crafty B*tch teaches you how to make fish-designed notebooks
This month Down East featured our friends at the Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center in an article on stranded seals [2]. It was a great account of all the amazing and hard work that they do to help Marine Animals in Maine and it reminded us of their annual fundraiser that’s coming up, Frolic for Flippers. The Frolic is a 5k but the catch is that you can Frolic with everyone at the University of New England, headquarters of MARC, or you can frolic from afar, wherever you are. All you do is walk, run, or cycle your 5k and send them in a photo for proof. What a neat idea. Last year we frolicked from the Common Ground Country Fair and had a blast. We also made them an item for their raffle that they have at the Frolic, full of amazing prizes. So, check out our fish notebooks that some lucky frolicker won last year and check out the Frolic For Flippers page here [3] and perhaps even Frolic!
What you’ll need:
Soft paper bound notebooks (vertical are easier to fit under the sewing machine)
Fabric of choice
Coordinating thread
Quilting temporary spray adhesive
Fish templates (we found pictures of fish online, printed them out and then cut around the edge to use as templates)
What to do:
Use the fish template and cut out fabric in the shape of a fish. Spray the wrong side of the fabric with spray adhesive and stick to the front of the notebook. Have fun! Sew any which way across the fish, or if you’d rather, follow the outline of the fish. Remember, you’ll only be able to sew so close to the binding of the notebook, so plan accordingly.
