Maine Attributes: When I moved to Maine in the summer of 2004, I was a single lady in search of a companion and protector. I found what I was looking for at PAWS animal shelter in Calais, Maine. I was ready to take Buddy the Doberman home when I asked one last time, "Is he good with cats?""He eats cats," was the reply; "We have another dog that might be just right for you..". She called his name and Benson came trotting around the corner of the kennel yard fence and into my heart.
And I believe Benson, if any dog, can claim to be a true Mainer — independent and woods-rugged, yet fiercely loyal.
I could go on...with the true story of when he was "apprehended" attempting to cross the Ferry Point Bridge into Canada in the middle of the night.
