Mount Desert Festival of Chamber Music
Four prominent string quartets will be performing at the Mount Desert festival. The Daedalus Quartet returns to open the series on July 19 with a program that includes the Kreutzer Sonata quartet by Czech composer Leoš Janáček, as well as Fauré's beloved C minor Piano Quartet. On July 26, the Borromeo String Quartet will present an all-Bach. The August 2 program will feature the return of the celebrated soprano Dominique Labelle performing Shostakovich's Seven Romances on poems of Alexander Blok. Other guests include violinist Stephanie Chase, violists Dov Scheindlin and Daniel Panner, cellist Mark Shuman, and bassist David Grossman. On August 9, the Shanghai Quartet performs works of Turina, Brahms, and Schumann. The season closes on August 16 with the Miró Quartet in their first appearance that includes Shostakovich's Piano Quintet with Todd Crow and Dvořák's "American" Quartet.
