What's the coolest lighthouse in Maine?
There's nothing quite like a visit to a Maine lighthouse on a summer day, but with so many to choose from it can be tough to decide where to go. What's your favorite? Send us a comment if you think your local light is the best in Maine.

The "Maine" Attraction
Not only is West Quoddy Light the only candy-striped lighthouse, but the state park that is adjacent to it is there to be enjoyed by all ages. The breathtaking cliffs and views of the lighthouse are spectacular pictures both mentally and for photography. Even though I grew up there, it is still my family's favorite place to visit when we go to Maine.
Pemaquid Point gets my vote!
PEMAQUID POINT! I love this lighthouse the best because it is so beautiful there and is a place you could spend the whole day at and still not want to leave.
Eileen's right
She really knows her lighthouses
Pemaquid's Peace
Pemaquid is by far the coolest lighthouse. It is a beautiful serene place. You can sit on the rocks (just don't get too close to the water and beware of rogue waves), have a picnic in the grass, walk on the beach or sit in the shade under a tree. You can smell and feel the salty air and just relax by the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks. You can climb the tower and see beauty all around. Nubble, Portland Head and West Quoddy Head all have their beauty too but nothing compares to the sacred place of Pemaquid. MAINE - The Way Life Should Be!!!!

Pemaquid
Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is the coolest because you can climb up in the tower and say that you have done half of the Maine State quarter. The other half is to sail on the Victory Chimes from Rockland.
Visiting as many as you can
It can be difficult to find the best viewing spots for some lighthouses. While there are some you can drive right up to, others can be viewed best from a distance or the water. Our map gives directions to each lighthouse along with a brief history and description.

So many lighthouses, so difficult to choose! But with Lighthouse Day Sept. 12 over 50 will be open free to the public. Our interactive map may help you find your way.
