Chosen Faith, Chosen Land
The Untold Story of America's 21st-Century Shakers
- By: Jeannine Lauber
Over a 15-year period renowned journalist and author, Jeannine Lauber, was granted excusive, unprecedented access to the private lives of the last remaining Shakers allowing her to reveal what it means to be a Shaker at Maine’s own Chosen Land that surrounds Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester, Maine.
In this rare book that includes extensive proprietary Shaker quotations, Jeannine Lauber pierces many of the misconceptions and myths about the religion – most notably that all Shakers are dead – and she offers a modern-day view of their faith and surrounding community. The book is as much about founder Mother Ann Lee as it is about the significance of modern Shaker religion as it relates to today’s Christian Church.
Jeannine Lauber is a nationally recognized, multiple Emmy-award winning broadcast journalist who has spent more than two decades covering the news. Although she is best known for her work as a prime-time anchor, her passion is long-form investigative journalism for which she was awarded an Edward R. Murrow Award in 2000. Lauber is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a BA in Journalism. She lives in Casco, Maine and is the President and Owner of Story Productions, LLC, a marketing and communications consulting company.
