Bills Would Weaken Billboard Law
Some Republican lawmakers want to lift or modify Maine's thirty-year-old billboard ban.
Two bills have been submitted to the state legislature. One would allow bigger signs on business properties so that they are visible from the highway. it would not lift the ban on signs off business properties.
The second bill would allow billboards along the state's highways for a fee.. The moneyr would be used for road maintenance.
Maine is one of only four states that ban the large advertising signs.
