Megunticook Ice Out Breaks Record

Ice out was officially declared on Megunticook Lake on March 19 at 5:02 p.m., the earliest open water has ever been recorded there. The announcement was made by Camden Lake Warden Ken Bailey who successfully motored his boat through the lake's main channel, from the outlet dams on the west shore through Chaney Narrows to the outlet of Norton Pond. Previously the earliest ice out recorded for Megunticook had been March 23, 1903.
