Larger Maine Crew
Talk about a good problem to have. Maine Maritime Academy, which has been producing top-notch mariners for the tankers, freighters, tugboats, and schooners plying waters around the world since 1941, is seeing a record number of students this year. That's proof that the school is doing something right — and the state is spending its money wisely, as supporting Maine Maritime is building the state's brand — but it also means those new students need someplace to live, and someplace to park their cars. That's an issue Castine is having to wrestle with, but here's hoping the school and the town can find a way to keep this small ripple from swamping the success this fine school is experiencing.
