Winter Harbor Music Festival Summer Sing
Starts: Aug 16 2013 - 7:30pm
Ends: Aug 16 2013 - 9:30pm
For our fourth annual Winter Harbor Music Festival Summer Sing, we have chosen Josef Haydn’s magnificent oratorio The Creation, Hob. XXI:2. Written between 1796 and 1798, the work is based on a libretto by Baron van Swieten drawn from Milton’s Paradise Lost and the Book of Genesis. The score’s combination of joy and power, along with its tunefulness and majestic choral writing (not to mention the fact that Haydn made an English-language version), make The Creation a great favorite for choral sings. We will be joined by three vocal soloists (t.b.a.) and a small orchestra; skilled instrumentalists interested in participating should contact us well in advance, at the address below.
Choral rehearsals will be offered free of charge to interested participants, on the afternoons of Wednesday and Thursday, August 14th and 15th, from 2:00 to 4:00, and on Friday the 16th from 4:00 to 5:00, at Hammond Hall. Please email us in advance if you are considering attending, at firstname.lastname@example.org. And, of course, feel free to contact us with any questions you may have about the Sing.
