From its antique downtown to its beautiful old houses perched in hillside neighborhoods, this small wonder has big - and offbeat - attractions. How many other Maine communities have a public restroom club? Or a spiffy riverside bike path? Or a museum in the streets that tells gripping tales of feast and flood? The city once boasted a thriving shipping port, big logging operations, and an important granite-quarrying industry.
