Maine Art & Design Dinner
Last night, dozens of people came to Rockland for the Maine Art & Design Dinner, presented by Thos. Moser & Down East Magazine. The opening reception took place at the beautiful Eric Hopkins Gallery in downtown Rockland. Cellardoor Winery’s Bettina Doulton was there serving some of her new wines, Melody Wolfertz of In Good Company provided appetizers, and guests got to see the latest Eric Hopkins pieces. Then it was a short drive over to one of Maine's best restaurants, Primo. There James Beard Award-winning Chef Melissa Kelly prepared a stunning four-course meal that included Sherried Lobster Bisque (accompanied by a garden squash blossom fritter stuffed with shrimp and lobster mousse — yum!), Ricotta Raviolini with local Wild Boar Ragu, and Pan Seared Port Clyde Halibut. In between the delicious food, guests were treated to talks by six local artists and designers:
ERIC HOPKINS ARTIST
ERIC ALLYN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER
CYNTHIA HYDE & JIM KINNEALEY CALDBECK GALLERY OWNERS
BILL LAURITA WOVEN PRODUCTS DESIGNER, SWANS ISLAND BLANKETS
DAVID MOSER FURNITURE DESIGNER
It was a great evening filled with fabulous food and inspiring discussion. Permeating the different mediums represented was a palpable love of Maine — both its landscape and its people. I think we were all reminded that we live in an incredible place that inspires creativity on a daily basis in so many different ways.
If you missed this special evening, be sure to sign up for the next Maine Art & Design Dinner on August 17th in Bar Harbor at Havana restaurant.
