Guidelines for Book Submissions:

Down East Books does not accept unsolicited manuscripts.

But if you would like to tell us about a book idea you have, or a book that you have already finished, you still can.  Just follow these simple steps:

First, make sure that you are familiar with our books.  Look at, or even read, some of the books that we have recently published. If after you’ve done that you feel like your book is a good fit for Down East, then send us a letter, either through the mail or by email, no more than one page long, with a short description of your project and a little bit about you.  In the case of a non-fiction book maybe tell us why you are qualified to write your book. You may also include the first two pages (no more than 1,000 words) of your book if you’d like.

We prefer email queries.  If you are sending your letter through the postal system, please don’t send us anything that cannot travel through the mail with a single first class stamp.  Definitely don’t send us anything you would like returned to you.  And, even though it is not ideal, please understand that it will take us a very very long time to get back to you, and that often it is impossible to send a personal response.
