Sharing Summer Food Favorites

Sharing Summer Food Favorites
As summer approaches (or rather makes quite a forceful entrance with this heat wave), Mainers and Maine foodies alike begin to dwell on some common themes.  It’s like a biological clock, ticking slowly all winter: come June, we just crave lobster, farmers’ markets, al fresco dining, fried clams, ice cream, and all things grilled. It’s in our blood.  And while I have scouted out a few of my favorite spots for these scrumptious Maine treats, I want to hear what you have to say.  Luckily, DownEast.com just launched a new feature: Maine’s Bulletin Board, an online forum where Mainers and visitors can go to post and answer questions about everything from art and politics to people and places.  And of course, food.   To jump-start the culinary conversation, I’ve posted the following five questions on the board.  Hopefully some of the results will make their way to this blog, too.  If you want to share your answers — or post other questions or comments — click here and create a new account by clicking register in the upper left corner.

Who serves the best lobster roll in the state?

What’s the best Maine-made ice cream?

What is the Maine cocktail of summer 2008?

With the weather warming up, where do you go to dine outside?

What’s your favorite Maine food to grill?

See you on the board!

For the best lobster roll, you have to venture to where the lobster are: Vinalhaven.

The Harbor Gawker is the absolute best hands down.

If a couple were to visit your area, what should we see.
Take care,

About The Maine Mouth

We don’t need Saveur, Gourmet, and Food & Wine magazines to tell us (though we appreciate the mentions) that our state is renowned for its culinary excellence. From fresh produce to plates of haute cuisine, it’s all here, and The Maine Mouth will help you find it. A combination of Maine food information and inspiration, The Maine Mouth is the place where you can get the word of mouth advice that will lead you to the good eats—and all that is related to it—from York to Fort Kent. I’ll be traveling across the state to farm stands, top restaurants, burger joints, bakeries, clam shacks, ice cream stands, wineries, and more, and reporting about the places worth seeking out. Plus I’ll include some recipes and stories from my own Maine experiences. I hope you'll help by sending in your own suggestions and comments so the Maine Mouth spouts off (pun intended) a true food dialogue that spans the entire state.
