Maine Pride
If you’re like us, you’re fascinated with Maine iconography and artifacts. If you’re into collecting bits of the past, too, well you’re in luck. The state of Maine has put its archive store online. Go to www.maine.gov/online/ archivestore and peruse the replicas of posters and advertisements of yore. The “treasures of our state’s history and culture” include more than six thousand maps and five thousand photographs, plus thousands of trademarks of old Maine products. Pick up a notecard with a Norman Rockwell lithograph, an old map of Moosehead Lake, a canned lobster ad for Burnham & Morrill Co., or an antique version of our state seal. If you are feeling particularly patriotic, you can get a copy of the handwritten 1819 State Constitution or the 1820 act of Admission to the Union. The archive store, which will also do custom requests, is the place to purchase your own little piece of Maine history.
