At Its Best:

Make Way for Ducklings Maine Style

Boatyard Ducklings is based on the true story of two friends who discover a nest of mallards in a dinghy

In Boatyard Ducklings, Heather Austin memorably recounts and beautifully pictures the true story of two young girls whose seaside summer is made unforgettable when they discover a nest full of ducklings in a boatyard dinghy. Along with the mallard hen, they hover over the nest, keeping watch until they witness the ducklings hatch and follow their mother to the sea.

Heather Austin’s pencil illustrations, coupled with a storyline about the protection of ducklings, are sure to call to mind Robert McCloskey’s classic picture book Make Way for Ducklings.
