Lynn Karlin

Garden writer Rebecca Sawyer-Fay and photographer Lynn Karlin wrote the following in their foreword to Gardens Maine Style, Act II:

Our favorite gardens transcend the merely pretty, combining visceral pleasure with a deeper relevance. Some of the landscapes featured in these pages emphasize what we love most about Maine: the rugged coastline and glassy lakes, the massive boulders and indigenous species, the morning fog and dappled evening light, the sleepy valleys where nothing much has changed in generations. Other featured landscapes, graced with historic plants, keep the past alive. When packed with spring-blooming bulbs, they offer hope in hard times. Always, they remind us of what matters most.
